Do you remember the first blame game and who played it? The Bible book of Genesis told the story of Adam blaming his wife, Eve for introducing him to the then forbidden fruit, (whatever that is, is not important to this piece).
‘’He who blames others has a long way to go on his journey. He who blames himself is halfway there. He who blames no one has arrived’’ Chinese Proverb.
That was over two thousand years ago. What is baffling is that most of us still play this game, blaming others, issues, circumstances, our bad choices, our unhappiness for our failures. We cannot make peace or move forward because we are pre-occupied with placing the blame, thereby treating ourselves as victims in the game of life. This is unfortunate.
Working Harder And Smarter
Life gives each one of us choices, choices abound to be better individuals. And all of us have that opportunity. There’s a Chinese Proverb that says,
‘’When the sun shines, it shines on everyone’’
Along that comes countless opportunities to turn our lives around, that is if we are not happy at our current situation. This is taking responsibility for our problems, and working harder and smarter on them.
We can work on our challenges because we all have capacity and determination, no matter how little. What we need is KNOWLEDGE of what our current situation is, and how we get there in the first instance, and how we are going to get out. We need that realistic assessment of the situation. Working harder and smarter means we continuously improve our strength until we are comfortable and happy with ourselves. And also endeavour to minimise our weaknesses, by working on them too.
Learning from our mistakes can spur us to do better. Life actually is about learning, not a failure, especially when we use the lesson well to guard us against future mistakes. Progress and failure are both parts of our journey.
About Duty & Responsibility
Our idea or attitude to duty should not be based on what other people think or want, or expect from us. Our greatest duty is to work on ourself, which is not that easy.
The problem is, each one of us has this preconceived IDEA of what is right or wrong, and we just flow in them. Have we stopped to ask whether we personally believe in them? Having our own conviction of rights or wrongs could be what we need to work on ourselves. Here there’s no ONE size that fits all.
Positive Attitude Helps
Which attitude do we carry in our day to day living? The best way to live life is that of positivity and cheerfulness of mind and heart. We must go out daily in expectation of kindness, success and joy.
Quite often our attitude can get a dent as we face real-life challenges, but nevertheless, we cannot fail if we embrace a positive outlook, it can make a dramatic change in our lives and work. Dwelling on the negatives is highly destructive.
Learn A Skill
Investing in ourselves is a positive way to brush ourselves up. Where do you lack the necessary skill to empower yourself, then go out and get the needed training. The only investment that is worthwhile is investing in oneself.
‘’Ignorance will be the number one source of poverty in decades to come.’’ says Hector Quintanilla
Learning a skill will also boost your confidence, and can only increase your value, not decrease it.
You Are Unique
In that, no two persons are alike or normal. The idea of normality is alien in mankind but rather a kind of social story. Our mood often changes from being anxious to embracing confidence. Nevertheless, if we know what we are doing, we each have the capacity to make happiness part of our lives.
Take Control Of Your Life
It is an important duty of an individual to take control of one’s life. How do we do that? We need an assessment of our life, where we are, where we want to be and how to get there.
We can then make use of tools to help us get there. The tools of training, education and knowledge including working hard.
If we are in the driving seat of our life, then we will have no time to play THE BLAME GAME.
